History
The Medical Scholarship Fund of the Monroe County Medical Society is a non-profit organization that uses funds available for annual scholarships for deserving medical students. The scholarship fund is managed by a volunteer committee. The number and amounts of scholarships are evaluated each year based on the monies available through donations and fundraising.

Some Facts
The MCMS Scholarship Fund has been in existence for nearly 50 years, and during that time has helped fund the medical school educations of countless area students.  Most, but not all, of the scholarship recipients attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Many of these students are now practicing physicians in the Rochester area.

More Facts
Contributions come from MCMS members and a number of others who wish to lend their support to this worthy cause. The committee members donate their services. As a result, over 90% of all contributions are returned to the students.

2011 Recipients
The 2011 MCMS Scholarship has been awarded to Yaroslav Shtengrat. Mr. Shtengrat graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rochester in May of 2011 and matriculated at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. The Edward T. Mulligan Memorial Award was awarded to Glenn Buchberger, MD. Dr. Buchberger, a native of Connecticut, is a Cum Laude graduate of Dartmouth College and a 2011 graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He recently began his residency in the combined Medicine and Pediatrics program at Strong Hospital. Michelle Coriddi, MD and David Lee, MD, are the recipients of this year’s Morton Scholarship. Dr. Coriddi, a native of Rochester, recently began her residency in plastic surgery at the Ohio State Hospital after graduating in May from the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Dr. Lee, who was born in Taiwan but raised in Calefornia, graduated with honors from Stanford University, recently began a residency in plastic surgery at the University of Massachtuess. Read more.
